For us at Nutisal, sustainability means rethinking how food is grown, processed and packaged. Every bag of dry roasted nuts should protect both people and the planet. From responsible cultivation to sustainable packaging, we take our commitment to concrete actions in everyday life.
We work directly with growers and partners to ensure that every step creates value without unnecessary waste. Taking care of our peanuts, almonds and cashew nuts also means taking care of those who grow them.
Did you know that in most cases, cashew nuts have to travel more than 11,000 kilometers before they reach store shelves? They are grown in Africa, sent to Asia for processing and then all the way to Europe. This detour not only harms the environment – it also means fewer jobs where the cashew nuts are grown, affecting local farmers’ income opportunities. We wanted to change that. Every nut should taste good and do good, without any bitter aftertaste.
At our own factory, Amama Farms in Tanzania, the cashews are shelled, processed and packed locally – reducing unnecessary transportation and creating jobs where they are needed most. By skipping the detour through Asia, we save around 12,500 containers each year and can deliver fresh fair trade cashews that are sustainably and locally produced.
Sustainability is not just about the environment – it’s about people. Through our Trivium Foundation we have started a bicycle program for women working at the factory, increasing their mobility, safety and everyday opportunities. Every cashew contributes to a greener future where people and the environment go hand in hand.
Climate change is causing droughts, frosts and extreme weather that are damaging the crops of Argentina’s peanut farmers. This leads to smaller peanuts, lower yields and increased safety risks such as aflatoxins. As one of the world’s largest exporters – with 95% of its crop exported – Argentina’s challenges affect the availability of peanuts globally. Without action, peanuts risk becoming less safe, less sustainable and less available.
We work with farmers supported by the SAI Platform, providing tools and training to help them work on sustainable agriculture through crop rotation, soil conservation and drought-resistant crops. Even peanut shells are harvested and used to produce clean energy.
California’s almond industry is facing a growing water crisis. With hot, dry summers and mild, humid winters, water shortages are a recurring problem. Growing almonds requires large amounts of water – around 4 liters for just one almond! Excessive water use can damage rivers, wetlands and entire ecosystems.
This overuse threatens not only nature, but also the future of almonds. As global demand increases, so does the pressure on sensitive landscapes. The result is an industry that leaves a trail of environmental impacts, wasteful use of resources and growing questions about the true sustainability of almonds.
Instead of water-intensive almonds from California, Nutisal uses almonds from Spain, where 85% of the trees survive on rainwater alone. Through smart irrigation and circular farming – where almond shells become biomass and are used in functional foods – our dry roasted almonds are better for both people and the environment. With responsibly grown almonds, you can enjoy your favorite snack with a good gut feeling.
Our new sustainable packaging is made from recyclable mono-material (PP) with a resealable seam – without the need for an extra plastic zipper. The smart design reduces waste and makes each bag easier to recycle, a step towards a more sustainable snacking future.
